A large hole appeared in garden

22 May 2021

What happened

A large hole appeared suddenly in the customer’s garden.

What we did

We were assigned the claim and after the initial in-depth triage call with our claims handler, it was decided a surveyor would be needed to carry out an initial inspection. We sent an experienced surveyor to the address where they carried out further inspection of the hole. This revealed there was in fact an abandoned well or similar structure that had previously been covered up. This had become visible due to the surface cover deteriorating and collapsing inwards which resulted in the hole appearing.

The result

After our inspections were carried out, we were satisfied that the cause was not due to subsidence. This resulted in the claim being repudiated with the final report being provided by the claims handler.

Although the claim was unsuccessful, the customer was very pleased with the service carried out by the adjuster and surveyors and appreciated the peace of mind our investigation brought.
