Fire caused by laptop and charger

22 May 2021

What happened

A fire caused by a laptop and its charger resulted in extensive damage to the entire internal property and roof. A forensics team was appointed along with an adjuster and a surveyor and the claim went to tender for repairs.

What we did

After the original company appointed by the insurer failed to attend, this claim was reassigned to Claims Consortium Adjusting to manage.

We visited the site the same day and a preliminary report was sent to the insurers the following day, with authorisation received the same day. The client and customer were very happy with the efficiency of the turnaround.

Access to the property was challenging as was situated off a main high street, behind a pub and through a narrow archway with poor parking. As a solution, we made use of the empty community centre car park nearby and delivered materials through a gate in the fence.

The result

In addition to overseeing and coordinating all of the work, our dedicated adjuster was in constant communication with the customer to support them through the process. We reduced the claim lifecycle and after the tender, asbestos removal and fees, we were also able to reduce the final cost by £42,000 from the original reserve price.

The customer and insurance company were both very happy with the process and final outcome and the customer’s contractor has since become part of our repair network to help with future claims.
